INTERCEPTED

Oksana Karpovych / 2024 / 93' / Canada, France, Ukraine

‘Intercepted’ presents a raw view of the war in Ukraine by juxtaposing intercepted phone calls between Russian soldiers and their families with tranquil landscapes infused with dizzying emotional tension. Ukrainian intelligence exposes a range of soldier emotions, from misguided heroism to deep disillusionment, shedding light on the brutal realities of war and the imperialist motives driving Russian aggression. The film contrasts these raw, personal recordings with vivid scenes of daily life disrupted by violence, creating a powerful tension that underscores the futility and inhumanity of the ongoing conflict in a uniquely observational manner.
