LIMITS OF EUROPE
Apolena Rychlíková / 2024 / 98' / Czech Republic, Slovakia, France
‘Limits of Europe’ follows Czech journalist Saša Uhlová as she goes undercover for two years to expose the harsh realities of low-wage migrant labour in Western Europe. Armed with a hidden camera, Uhlová works in gruelling conditions, from picking asparagus in Germany to cleaning hotel rooms in Ireland, and caring for the elderly in France. Her journey reveals the emotional and physical toll on Eastern European workers sustaining affluent societies. This powerful documentary is a striking exposé on the inhumanity and unsustainability at the heart of modern European life, while still capturing moments of humour and human connection.
