A PICTURE TO REMEMBER
Olga Chernykh / 2023 / 72' / Ukraine, France, Germany
‘A Picture to Remember’ is an essay-style film that explores the war through the eyes of three generations of women. Frequent video calls between Chernykh, her mother (a pathologist working above a morgue), and her grandmother are woven together with family archive footage, news reports, and images of parasites her mother studies. The film fluidly connects the present violence in Donbas with the WWII destruction recounted by Chernykh’s grandmother, creating a kaleidoscopic and personal reflection on absence and loss.
