King Matt the First invites us into a world free from hierarchies and adult constraints, where curiosity and sensitivity guide two sisters – Zoya and Lea – through their childhood. As wars, pandemics, and climate crises echo around them, the film gently reflects on the moment childhood ends and adulthood begins. Do we even remember what it means to be a child? And do we lose our vulnerability forever once we grow up? With delicacy and poetic vision, Jasmina Wójcik asks what children can teach us.
