Toma Hitrov (1840–1906), often referred to as the “court photographer” of the Bulgarian revolutionary emigration, is the man to whom we owe our knowledge of Hristo Botev’s likeness. The film tells the story of a contemporary photographer who follows Hitrov’s footsteps in an attempt to discover his little-known photographic series of the places through which Botev’s detachment passed. The search for the photographs gradually turns into a journey through time, revealing the inspiring story of Toma’s life – a life entirely devoted to the idea of a free and independent Bulgaria.
