FIUME O MORTE!

Igor Bezinović / 2024 / 112' / Croatia, Italy, Slovenia

In 1919 the eccentric Italian officer, poet, and fascist Gabriele D’Annunzio, unilaterally occupied the Croatian city of Rijeka (then Fiume). For sixteen wild months, the city became a stage for political and artistic chaos – filled with poetry, cocaine, weapons, and absurd speeches – culminating in D’Annunzio declaring war on his own country. The film features present-day residents of Rijeka reenacting the events, turning the story into an original and satirical reflection on the fine line between history and the dangerous ideas of today.
