STRANDZHA
Pepa Hristova / 2025 / 95' / Germany,Bulgaria
Nestled by the Black Sea, Strandzha guards one of the last wild borderlands in Europe – a raw and mystical landscape between Bulgaria and Turkey, East and West. Once an escape route, today it is
again crossed by people along new Balkan paths. In this history-soaked region, Thracian rituals still pulse through contemporary life. The land carries both trauma and spiritual power – a place where past and present intertwine. Among fire dancers, former soldiers, children in abandoned barracks and vulnerable women, the film unfolds a poetic, at times absurd and humorous, yet deeply human portrait of life marked by borders – visible and invisible.
