BETWEEN DAYS, BETWEEN NIGHTS
Cécile Canut, Stefka Stefanova Nikolova / 2026 / 90' / France, Bulgaria
How does one live with anti-Roma racism in a neighborhood separated from the rest of the city? Between 2007 and 2022, Stefka Stefanova Nikolova’s life unfolds in Nadezhda, a Roma neighborhood on the outskirts of Sliven. Through her writings and her long friendship with filmmaker Cécile Canut, the film offers an intimate view of everyday life in a community shaped by poverty, isolation, and segregation. Over the years, their shared experience creates a record of the neighborhood and the people who live there, while Stefka’s reflections look toward the future of her community and the wider world.
