RULE OF STONE
Danae Elon / 2024 / 84' / Canada, Israel
Rule of Stone explores how the requirement to use so-called Jerusalem stone in new construction serves not only aesthetic uniformity but also functions as a tool for political and demographic domination. Since 1967, this architectural policy has effectively demarcated Palestinian neighborhoods and made physical division of the city impossible. Through archival footage and interviews with architects, urban planners, and residents, the film reveals how even a building’s facade can become an instrument of control.
